ON Monday, the halls of Mzilikazi High School will resonate with excitement as former student Nkosikhona Baloyi returns to his alma mater to launch his ground-breaking debut book, “Effortless Studying: Mastering O & A Level Sciences”.

Born in Lower Gwelo and bred in Bulawayo, Nkosikhona Baloyi’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. A 2023 graduate with an Honours in Biomedical Sciences, he is now pursuing Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees at the University of Zimbabwe.

His academic prowess was evident early on, as he achieved an impressive 8As and 2Bs at O Level, followed by a remarkable 15 points at A Level, all while serving as Headboy at Mzilikazi High School.

Driven by a passion for understanding the intricacies of the brain and how it processes information, Baloyi told Chronicle Showbiz that he has dedicated his efforts to unlocking the potential within every student.

“The key is providing the right ingredients and techniques,” he explained, envisioning a world where students can fully harness their abilities through effective learning strategies.

In “Effortless Studying: Mastering O & A Level Sciences”, Baloyi addresses a pressing issue in the education system: the disheartening statistics surrounding student performance.

“Why is it that only 26% to 38% of students pass their O Levels each year, and only a handful achieve 12 points or more at A Level?” he quizzed.

This stark reality prompted him to write the book, highlighting that students are often burdened with vast amounts of information without being taught how to learn effectively or memorise what they study.

Throughout the book, Baloyi provides practical insights on why learning is essential, how to learn effectively, and techniques for retaining information.

He emphasised the importance of resilience in the face of challenges, featuring motivational quotes from renowned professionals in the sciences.

“You have to desire to succeed and it must come from within,” wrote Professor Rudo Makunike Mutasa, while Mluleki Tshuma encouraged readers with, “Regardless of the challenges that life takes us through, never take giving up as an option.”

Baloyi’s approach is both innovative and relatable.

“Studying can be tough, frustrating, and exhausting,” he acknowledged.

“Every student seeks an effective way to study.”

In his book, he shares proven techniques that make studying easier and enjoyable. Baloyi aims to transform studying into a more accessible and less daunting experience.

“Once you pick it up, it’s hard to let go,” he assured potential readers.

As the launch approaches, Baloyi’s vision is clear: to inspire a new generation of students to improve their grades.

He hopes to empower them to overcome obstacles and achieve their academic goals by providing them with the tools and techniques to succeed.

This event is not just a celebration of Baloyi’s achievements but also a call to action for students to embrace Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematic subjects as crucial tools for their academic and personal emancipation. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
