FORMER Premier Soccer League fireband secretary general Leslie Gwindi has reportedly ascended to the chieftainship throne as Chief Hwata in Muzarabani district.
Gwindi, who also held the same post at Dynamos and is also a former Harare City Council spokesperson, is yet to be officially installed by Government in terms of the Traditional Leaders Act
Gwindi however, did not respond when specifically asked for a comment on the development.
Writing on his Facebook page, former Chronicle staffer Fanuel Viriri said Gwindi is understood to have assumed the role last year
Viriri wrote that Gwindi declined to discuss the matter, allegedly citing the prerogative of his clan’s elders.
“Just wait, you need to talk to the elders first. I have no power to say anything. I will give you the scoop. Remember, I am not the PSL secretary general where I use football statutes to talk,” Gwindi responded to Viriri
According to Viriri, the Chieftainship is hereditary within the Gwindi clan, and it is now his turn to assume the throne. Shayachimwe Mukombami was the first Chief Hwata, ruling from 1775 to 1820.
