Former Sunday Mail chief sub editor, Nyasha Dzimunwe, has died.

He reportedly succumbed to Covid-19 related illness in South Africa on Monday.

At the time of his death, Dzimunwe was working in South Africa.

Journalists that worked with him said they have been gutted by his death.

Former Sunday Mail Editor William Chikoto, who is now the Zimpapers Editorial Executive, yesterday mourned the veteran journalist, describing his death as a loss to the fraternity.

“When I was appointed Editor of The Sunday Mail in March 2001, I appointed Nyasha Dzimunwe as chief sub editor, succeeding Christian Mutseyekwa, who had been appointed my deputy.

“Nyasha served in that post with distinction.

“He was a diligent and faithful news gatekeeper, with a sharp eye for detail. An affable colleague, he was.

“We all called him Sekuru Nyasha. It was not surprising that he later landed a subbing job with one of the top newspapers in South Africa.

“He kept in touch with his former colleagues at The Sunday Mail. We shall dearly miss him,” said Chikoto.
