A BEITBRIDGE man’s slick car theft plan crashed and burned after the victim turned hunter and nabbed him before cops could.
Tawedzegwa Hove (37) landed in court after he was fingered in the dramatic theft of a silver Toyota Fortuner GD6 belonging to clearing agent Sikhumbuzo Mhlanga (35).
ON 5 August, Mhlanga parked at his mother’s home in Mashavire and left the SUV idling. Moments later, his R37 000 treasure on wheels vanished in a blur of speed.
The carjackers stripped off the tracking device and helped themselves to US$300, R1 200, an iPhone 13 Pro Max and a Samsung phone with a South African line.
But luck ran out. Using his own tracking, Mhlanga hunted down his prized Fortuner and on 10 August he personally pounced on Hove, recovering the vehicle.
Police later took custody of both the suspect and the recovered ride.
Hove has since been dragged to court and remanded to 29 August for trial.
The NPAZ said police are hot on the heels OF the accomplices, named as Shakemore Ndou, Vincent Ndou, and two other suspects still at large.
“We commend the complainant’s courage and determination in recovering his property, but we urge members of the public not to take the law into their own hands,” warned the NPAZ.
Investigations are ongoing.
