Ruth Pasi Foundation, in conjunction with the President’s Office (disability desk), is training parents on how to care for children with autism.
Autism is a developmental disorder that affects communication and behaviour.
In an interview, Ruth Pasi Foundation founder Ms Ruth Pasi said she was sharing specialist training she received overseas.
“I did not know how to deal with autism, but when I went overseas, I went through various trainings on what autism is and how we can manage it,” she said. “I was then able to foster two autistic children.
“I also wanted to teach my children about empathy, so we came back home now and we are teaching other parents on how to deal with people who are autistic.”
Advisor to the President on National Disability, Cde Joshua Malinga, said he was excited about the initiative and will work closely with Ms Pasi.
“I am happy with this initiative that Ruth Pasi Foundation brought here in Zimbabwe and I am going to work closely with them to make sure that the initiative is successful,” he said.
Ms Pasi is also working with gospel singer Mercy Mutsvene, whose role is to search for talent among children with autism.
“I am the ambassador for Talent Search, we search for talent in children who are autistic because we believe that every person has a talent,” Mutsvene said.
