Founders launch cultural village

The school celebrated the launch of the village in song and dance at a colourful ceremony held on Tuesday.
The cultural village is made up of two traditional huts and a granary.

Speaking at the launch of the village, guest of honour, historian, author and cultural expert Pathisa Nyathi commended the arts and culture department in the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture for the noble idea, which would go a long way in preserving culture.
“This is a brilliant idea brought by the Ministry of Education particularly the Arts and Culture department for such an initiative that would go miles in preserving our culture and heritage,” said Nyathi.

He challenged the institution to properly utilise the structures, as they are not only confined to culture but other subjects as well.
“I challenge teachers to look at other domains and subjects that can benefit from these structures. What quickly comes to mind are subjects like mathematics, sciences and traditional practices such as folklores, craftsmanship, dances and drum playing,” said Nyathi.

He paid tribute to the director in the arts and culture department in the ministry, Reverend Paul Damasane for mainstreaming the idea of cultural villages.

In an interview, the headmistress of Founders High School, Mrs Dorothea Moyo, who could not hide her joy at the school’s achievement, said the cultural village was a step in the right direction, as it would assist her institution in teaching history and inculcate a sense of identity in students.
“We want our children to learn history because we live in a world with diverse cultures, we want them to understand each other,” she said.
