Peter “Dhewa” Moyo will play alongside John Chibadura’s prodigy, Rodrick “Bambo” Chomudara who judging by his past does not normally disappoint.
However, all eyes will be on Peter who has to live up to fans’ expectations.
The late Tongai, the most decorated musician, was head and shoulders above the rest in terms of artistic flair. “Father Flower”, “Murozwi Mukuru”, as Dhewa was affectionately known, was full of energy even when the chips were seemingly down healthwise. He kept on nourishing his fans with mouth-watering displays despite his deteriorating health.
Dhewa battled with cancer for six years before he succumbed to the dreaded disease last month.
The heir to the Igwe throne should demonstrate to the fans that he has what it takes. Basing on what he has done at other venues where he has played so far, the young man will obviously take fans down memory lane by churning out his late father’s songs with the able assistance of Shiga Shiga and the whole Utakataka entourage.
Shiga Shiga has been reportedly giving Peter the much needed moral support for him to stand as a man and the 21-year-old has so far not disappointed.
He has managed to show some flashes of brilliance and Masvingo fans are eager to see him in action.
The organiser of the show, Taurai Mudzviti, said it has always been his pleasure to work with his late friend Tongai and now his son Peter. “We worked remarkably well with the late Dhewa who had become my best friend and I am one of the people who attended his funeral.
“He used to play at my night club almost every year if not twice a year. After his passing on, it was always in my plans to engage Peter and I am happy he has accepted the idea.
“I am also prepared to see the seed that my friend left grow and will continue inviting the young man to play here. We are looking forward to a full house because from what I heard the young man, like his late father, is talented,” said Mudzviti.
