POLICE in Nyanga have arrested four suspects for allegedly stealing 65 cattle worth US$24 500 from fellow villagers before driving them to Nyazura to sell to buyers.
Forty-two beasts have since been recovered.
Pardon Famiya (27), Sinikiwe Sanyamahwe (32), Passmore Marongedza (39) and Lovemore Marongedza, who were represented by Mr Munyaradzi Manyengavana of Manyengavana Law Chambers, initially appeared before the Nyanga Magistrates Court facing allegations of stealing 32 beasts. They were denied bail by magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiwundura.
However, they are now facing 10 counts of stealing 65 cattle in and around Nyanga.
According to the State papers, the quartet allegedly stole cattle belonging to Tawanda Tembo, Shepherd Nyamuzuwe, Moses Fisha, Shailock Makawa, Luke Fisha, Anna Mupomhoki, Netsai Nyamunhengura, Lovemore Dumba and Peter Nyamurondo.
“Sometime in October 2025, Tawanda Tembo penned off his eight cattle from the kraal and sent them to the grazing lands within Vhurande Village. As the cattle were grazing unattended, Famiya acting in common purpose and cahoots Sanyamahwe, Passmore Marongedza and Lovemore Marongedza drove the eight cattle Vhurande village and took them to Sanyamahwe’s homestead.
“Tembo took some days looking for the cattle up until on October 24, 2025 when he got information that there were cattle suspected of having been stolen and were kept at the homestead of Sanyamahwe’s husband, Elias Nyamufa who is still at large.
“Complainant tipped the police and the police swiftly reacted and proceeded to Sanyamahwe’s homestead. Upon arrival at Sanyamahwe’s homestead, a number of cattle were found penned in the kraal and Tembo positively identified two of his cattle and Sanyamahwe was found in the process of selling the complainant’s two cattle but had not yet secured buyers.
“Further investigations were done by the police and it was established that some of Tembo’s missing cattle had been transported to Lovemore Marongedza’s homestead in Nyazura. Police pursued the information and searches were done in Nyazura area leading to the recovery of five other cattle of the complainant at Marongedza’s homestead and the cattle were found in custody of Passmore and Lovemore Marongedza.
“A total of 42 cattle belonging to Tembo and nine other complainants were also recovered at the homestead,” read the state papers.
