Police have arrested four suspects, including three teenagers, in connection with the murder of a man they were drinking beer with at a bottle store in Chinhoyi.
The three juveniles, aged 16 and 17, teamed up with their colleague, aged 23, and beat Saston Muterazuva following a misunderstanding at Mawuto Bar in Chinhoyi’s Avalon suburb.
They started assaulting him with hands before he escaped from the bottle store but pursued and caught up him while pelting him with stones.
Muterazuva suddenly fell to the ground, presumably after being hit with a stone.
The pursuing assailants caught up with him and one of them allegedly stabbed him with a Colombian knife on the right thigh and he started bleeding heavily.
Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the tragedy.
“ZRP Mashonaland West Province confirms the arrest of three male juveniles aged 17, 16, 16, and a male adult aged 23, all from Chinhoyi, in connection with a murder case which occurred at Mawuto Bar Avalon, Chinhoyi in which Saston Muterazuva (23) of Destiny Chinhoyi was killed,” he said.
A report was made at ZRP Chemagamba, who handled attended the scene with CID Chinhoyi and found Muterazuva dead.
His body was taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for a post mortem.
Meanwhile, in another incident, Last Pritchard (23) of Shumavale Farm in Chegutu stabbed Dean Majoni of Shumavale Farm, Chegutu with a Colombian knife.
The incident occurred at a funeral at Wicklow farm, Chegutu, after a misunderstanding over an undisclosed matter.
Majoni was taken to Chegutu District Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Mourners apprehended the suspect and handed him over to Chegutu police.
Police in Banket are investigating a case of robbery and murder, which occurred at Carlton Curlieu Farm on November 1 2025 at around 1 am.
At least six men pounced on three security personnel on duty, armed with an unknown rifle. They attacked one of the security guards, Lameck Dick and tied both his hands and legs before taking turns to assault him with sticks, demanding to know the positions of the other security guards.
He sustained serious injuries before giving in and revealed their positions. The other two security guards were located in the pump room, where they were working and were threatened with the rifle.
“The suspects handcuffed the two and later vandalised the transformer, stole armoured cables measuring 12 by 70 metres and 12 by 35 metres and disappeared,” said Insp Kohwera.
The guards were rescued by a passer-by who heard the noise during the night. Dick was taken to Banket District Hospital for treatment but succumbed to the injuries on the same day.
Insp Kohwera expressed the police’s concern with the rise in murder cases in Mashonaland West Province.
“ZRP Mashonaland West is concerned with the trend of murder cases being committed in the province, with juveniles also being involved,” said Insp Kohwera.
“Most of them are emanating from petty issues and the assailants using weapons like Columbian knifes, machetes and axes.”
He said people should resolve their issues amicably and respect the sanctity of life.
Police have since intensified stop and search patrols throughout Mashonaland West Province and have warned that anyone found with a dangerous weapon will be arrested.
