FOUR people have been arrested in Gwanda in connection with two cases of theft from motor vehicles in which cash and cellphones worth thousands of dollars were stolen.

The suspects, identified as Lillian Moyo (40), Ronald Chiome (30), Kwanele Ndlovu (44) and Tineyi Chigondo (36), were arrested following investigations by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

According to police, the alleged offences occurred between June 26 and June 30, when the suspects allegedly broke into two parked vehicles and stole two cellphones, US$2 100 and R920 in cash.

Police said detectives used closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to positively identify the suspects before tracking them down.

“The suspects were positively identified through CCTV footage. Detectives tracked them down, leading to a high-speed pursuit which culminated in their arrest,” said the police in a statement on their official social media platforms.

The arrests led to the recovery of an iPhone 17 Pro Max believed to have been stolen from one of the complainants.

Police also recovered the suspects’ alleged getaway vehicle, three anti-lock devices and T-bars, which investigators suspect were used to unlawfully gain entry into the targeted vehicles.
