FOUR Bulawayo men have appeared in court for allegedly breaking into a car that had developed a mechanical fault before robbing the motorist of US$18, R100, a cellphone and a car battery.
Marvellous Ndlovu (32), Ajudi Banda (24) and Thubelihle Dube (28), all from Emakhandeni suburb, together with Andile Moyo (21) of Old Lobengula suburb, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube facing robbery charges.
The quartet was remanded in custody to March 19 for trial.
Prosecuting, Ms Cathrine Kuzu told the court that on January 23 at around 2AM, the accused persons allegedly spotted the complainant, Brian Ncube, asleep inside his car, which had developed a mechanical fault and was parked along the roadside near an area popularly known as Emagetsini in Emakhandeni.
“Upon reaching the complainant’s car, Ndlovu smashed the passenger-side window, prompting the complainant to wake up. The other three accused persons threatened to kill the complainant before getting into the vehicle,” said Ms Kuzu.
The accused persons allegedly stole US$18, R100, a cellphone, a car battery, four speakers and a woofer before fleeing from the scene.
A report was made to the police, leading to the recovery of the cellphone. The other stolen items, including the cash, were not recovered.
