Two women, who had been marooned for four days at the confluence of the Shashe and Simukwe rivers in Sun-Yat-Sen, Matabeleland South province, were rescued on Christmas Day by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Fairbridge Sub-Aqua Unit.

Police said the women, aged 48 and 23, had been trapped at the river confluence since 21 December 2025, before officers moved in and carried out the rescue on 25 December 2025.

The ZRP confirmed that the operation was conducted by members of the Fairbridge Sub-Aqua Unit, bringing the four-day ordeal to an end.
