Four people were killed while 12 others were injured when a commuter omnibus they were travelling in overturned along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road on Saturday.
The accident occurred at the 312km peg along the road.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on January 3, 2026 at the 312-kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road. Four people were killed while 12 others were injured when a Nissan Caravan kombi with 16 passengers on board veered off the road before overturning and landing on its roof.
“The bodies of the victims were conveyed to Hwange Colliery Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured were admitted at the same hospital,” he said.
Meanwhile, police in Murereka, Lion’s Den, are investigating a suspected hit and run road traffic accident in which a yet to be identified woman was found dead on January 3, 2026 at the eight-kilometre peg along Lion’s Den-Mhangura Road.
The victim was wearing a striped blue and grey T-shirt and a red track bottom. The body was taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for post-mortem.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that might assist with investigations to contact any nearest police station.
