REFEREE Victor Phiri took the centre stage at the National Sports Stadium yesterday as he issued four cards in a match in which Cranborne Bullets all but waved goodbye to the top-flight league.
Bullets, who finished with nine men, what looked genuine penalty appeals against hosts Herentals turned away late on.
Veteran forward Blessing Majarira struck twice in the second half, to cancel out a 23rd minute lead by Nyasha Guren, and guide the Students to victory.
“By, all standards, this was very poor officiating. I don’t know if I’m allowed to criticise the referee, but I thought the referees were not up to scratch,” said Bullets coach Sammy Mavhenyengwa
“We had a very good first half but the second half it was the referees’ game.”
They lost two players on the pitch to red cards while substitute forward Kingsley Mureremba was ejected for an altercation with a ball boy midway through the second half.
A Bullets official was sent off for verbal abuse directed to the near side assistant.
