FOUR people from Bulawayo were on Saturday selected to represent the city at the ‘Sing your way to Paris’ finals being held at Alliance Francaise in Harare on Saturday.

The singing competition preliminaries, held at the Alliance Française offices in Bulawayo on Saturday, saw Mostert Cozette, Tsikayi Chioniso, Mutanhire Ruvimbo and Mntambo Qeqeshiwe being shortlisted for the finals where they will compete with four other finalists from Harare.

Alliance Française de Bulawayo director, Marie Helen Predhom said the ultimate winner of the competition would go on a two-week, all expenses paid trip to France. They will also have French lessons there.

She said besides the singing competition, Alliance Française would also select a student from Girl’s College who would go on a trip to Paris on a cultural programme. She will spend a month there interacting with other students.

“In July we’re going to be sending a student to Paris on an exchange programme. The student should be able to communicate with her French counterparts and have a complete conversation,” Predhom said.

She said the Festival de la Francophonie, which kicked off on Friday with a dinner at Indaba Book Café, was going on well. Francophonie Day celebrations will be held on Friday with French movies being shown at the Bulawayo National Art Gallery.

A French dictation and quiz will be held today at the Zimbabwe Academy of Music from 2PM. I’m An Old Communist Hag film will be shown at the National Art Gallery in Bulawayo at 6PM. The Les Petites Fugues film will be shown tomorrow at the gallery at 6PM.
