Tuskers’ chief operations officer Samu Nkiwane said their players worked hard to retain the Castle Logan Cup and encouraged them to hunt for overseas contracts so that they continue playing competitive cricket.
She said the four players informed the franchise about their intended moves and revealed that Staddon would not be returning when the season starts.
“It has been a busy season and now that it is over as Tuskers we said we were not going to stand in the way as they search for overseas contracts. We have four players that will be leaving for England and Australia.
“Having some of our players being involved during the off-season will be good for us as we expect them to be in great shape when our season starts.
“Staddon is going to Australia and it seems he might not be coming back while the other three — Ervine, Coventry and Meth — are heading for English County Cricket. We are not sure which clubs they will be turning out for,” said Nkiwane.
All Tuskers players will be jobless at the end of the month as their contracts expire on 31 March.
The foreign players ,Paul Horton and Richard Jones, left the country for England last month to play County Cricket.
This is not the first time for the Castle Logan Cup champions to have their players attached to European teams during the local league break.
Some of the Tuskers players that have played overseas include skipper Gavin Ewing, Ervine, bowling sensation Glen Querl and Sean Ervine.
The Bulawayo club are also in the process of organising coaching contracts for some of their players.
Nkiwane was also hopeful that some of the players would get Zimbabwe Cricket contracts.
“Last year we had Njabulo Ncube, Keegan Meth, Charles Coventry, Terrence Duffin and Christopher Mpofu who were on ZC contracts. During off-season they went for training with other national team players. We are also hoping to have some of our players getting ZC contracts after March.
“Plans are also at an advanced stage to give players coaching contracts.
“They will be involved in coaching at schools, which is part of Tuskers’ developmental projects,” said Nkiwane.
