FRANCE will seek to re-engage and restore ties with the Government to revive the country’s economy, particularly distressed industries in Bulawayo, French ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Laurent Delahousse has said. Speaking after paying a courtesy call on the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Bulawayo, Cde Eunice Nomthandazo Moyo at her Mhlahlandlela office on Friday, Mr Delahousse said France had held positive discussions for re-engagement with Harare.
“We are very much interested in mending our relations with the Zimbabwean Government to revive distressed industries in Bulawayo. We need to revive our companies in Zimbabwe among them Puzey and Payne. Bulawayo industries are the major player in turning around the country’s economy hence the need to invest in the city,” said the ambassador.
Puzey and Payne is a car dealer specialising in French built Peugeot vehicles.
He said Bulawayo residents should look forward to French investments and a brighter future.
“I have come to Bulawayo and Zimbabwe to convey to the people of Zimbabwe and Bulawayo a message of establishing friendship and solidarity from the French people and the French Government.
“We are very much confident that the two nations can develop friendship that will benefit both countries.
We have also made positive strides with the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture in supporting the teaching of French language and promoting of sport in Zimbabwe,” he said.
Mr Delahousse said France was willing to work with Zimbabwe.
