COMEDIAN Frank Chirisa is riding high after a whirlwind week that saw him conquer stages in Zimbabwe, Eswatini and South Africa, all within just a few days.
The fast-rising comic delivered back-to-back performances at the Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo, the Eswatini International Comedy Festival and The Bioscope in Johannesburg, earning laughs and building connections across the region.
Reflecting on his marathon tour, Chirisa said the experience was rewarding and inspiring.
“This has been quite a wholesome experience as I got to reconnect with my friend Tsitsi Chiumya and finally met Shanray Van Wyk, Mpho ‘Popps’ Modikoane as well as Dillan Olliphant.

“I also met Siyabulela Seya. It was scary performing after Dillan’s set, though, because he’s super funny.
“I enjoyed performing with Khanyisa Bunu and Summary as well. At the Kingdom of Eswatini, I met other comics such as Aiden Ho, and it has been a whirlwind of a few days,” he shared.
Back on home soil, Chirisa continues to build momentum through his ongoing Frankly Speaking Tour, which has seen him perform across the country.
His growing presence reflects the increasing impact of Zimbabwean comedy on the international stage. The country’s comedians have been making waves beyond borders.
Last year, Learnmore Jonasi, now based in the United States, became a top-five finalist on America’s Got Talent (AGT) 2024, while King Kandoro (Mukudzei Kandoro Majoni) earned a global following through his satirical show Properganda with Kandoro and the popular podcast Sadza in the Morning.
The local scene is also evolving with new formats. This past weekend, arts administrator Saimon Mambazo Phiri took centre stage in a comedic “roast” as part of his 50 Dates at the Theatre series, partnering with Umahlekisa Entertainment to deliver a night of laughter and satire. — @MbuleloMpofu
