TWO people were seriously injured and several homesteads destroyed when a hailstorm accompanied by strong winds hit Insiza District in Matabeleland South on Thursday.
The hailstorm which lasted for just an hour left a trail of destruction in Sanali and Embondweni areas under Chief Maduna.
Denis Sibanda, a villager, said his wife was injured when the house she was in collapsed during the hailstorm.

“The house collapsed on her as she was trying to close a window. I  rescued her but she suffered serious injuries and I had to rush her to Filabusi Hospital where she is admitted.

“The left side of her body is paralysed,” said Sibanda
He said another villager was also admitted together with his wife at Filabusi hospital.

“I also heard that there is another villager who also fractured a leg after a hut collapsed on her and is admitted at the hospital,” he said.
At some roofs were blown away.

Elizabeth Ncube, 75, said the rains had destroyed some of their crops.
Ncube appealed to government and other organisations to assist those families whose houses were destroyed.
