GOODNESS and Mercy Ministries founder, Prophet Tapiwa Freddy has started building a church following the demolition of what was deemed an illegal structure in 2020.
Freddy told H-Metro that he has begun the project at a properly acquired site in Glen Norah.
He learnt his lessons following the demolition of his Glen View church structure four years ago.
“We have started building structures at our church stand along High Glen Road in Glen Norah,” he said.
“The congregation and our partners are ready and their spirits have been rejuvinated.
“Like one Biblical Prophet Nehemiah said Jerusalem lies in ruins and its gates have been burned.
“Come, let’s rebuild Jerusalem’s wall, so that we will no longer be a disgrace.
“To Nehemiah, the wall was a means to a larger purpose and by rebuilding the walls, his people were reclaiming their identity as people of faith.
“What was at stake was not just a wall but indeed their very faith,” said Prophet Freddy.
He told H-Metro that the new place was given to him by City of Harare since all his documents were in order when he faced the demolition of his structures.
He took social media by storm in the aftermath of the demolition as he produced a song “Ndirikurwadziwa” overnight.
“Yes, we have all the paperwork for our new premises that we acquired from the Harare City Council, following the unfortunate incident where our church structure was demolished in 2020.
“Despite the challenges we faced while paying the city council, we thank God for the alternative solution they provided.
“We learnt the importance of remaining strong and focused during trials.
“One key lesson was that a prophet is often not honoured in his own land.
“It was disheartening to see residents of Glen View celebrating the demolition of our church, despite benefiting from our church programs, like providing clean borehole water.
“This time, we are building a bigger church that will accommodate more than 5000 people at our new site.
“The challenges we faced in 2020 turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as we now have a much larger space compared to Glen View,” he said.
Prophet Freddy said the project is being funded by God through the generous contributions of his church members and support from international partners.
He said, given the scale of this church project, they hope to complete it within two years.
Prophet Freddy, besides leading GMM, he is a musician with a mission to use all tools available so as to spread the word of God.
