SEVERAL free body scan agents, who have been operating in the Central Business District (CBD) have disappeared from the streets following a warning by authorities that they will be descending on them.
The development comes after the Health Professional Authority, (HPA), Medicines Control Authority Zimbabwe (MCAZ), and the police declared a crackdown on premises of Network Marketing companies involved in offering magnetic resonance service.
Of late, the agents have been occupying most corners in town coercing people to get scans for free using machines called Quantum Analysers or Quantum Resonance Magnetic Body Bio Health analyser Machines to detect the presence of diseases, toxins, and other underlying health conditions.
While most of the results have not been accurate, the victims are virtually forced into buying their herbs after being prescribed by their ‘doctors’.
Following H-Metro’s story yesterday, the agents disappeared from the streets.
Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe president, Dr Johannes Marisa, said people were losing a lot of money on medicines that have not been proven to work.
“Indeed, there is a proliferation of these so-called healers who come in the form of herbalists,” he said.
“One thing people should know is that as medical practitioners, we are regulated by the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council of Zimbabwe whereas registered herbalists are regulated by the Traditional Medicines Council of Zimbabwe.
“But what surprises us is that not many of these herbalists are registered, so whatever things they might be doing maybe clandestine and right now they are practicing without anyone monitoring their activities which is quite sad.
“People are losing a lot of money; the prices are extortionate, and there is no scientific evidence that some of the things that they are selling are of medical importance,” said Dr Marisa.
Dr Marisa added:
“The fact that something is now happening to these so-called ‘free scans’ means that the authorities have listened to people’s concerns and they are working on addressing it.”
The supposed patients who spoke to H-Metro yesterday said they were glad that those free scan agents were nowhere to be found in the CBD yesterday.
Meanwhile, A local company which has been luring people for free body scans and selling herbs yesterday operated undercover.
A few Greenlife Healthcare sales representatives in the Central Business District still touted for clients without uniforms.
Greenlife Healthcare boss Trevor Tichawona Musekiwa told H-Metro that they have nothing to hide since they are operating above board.
“We are registered under ZINATHA and we have all the documents for our operations,” said Musekiwa.
“We have been given authority to pack herbs and distribute them.
“As for the free body scanning, it is not mandatory.
“We have people, who come to buy herbs without undergoing a body scan.
“The machine detects any challenges in the body and we inform the client what could have been analysed.
“We cannot charge people to check their body index, it’s like checking blood pressure, everyone can have the BP check machine,” he said.
Musekiwa however, seemed unaware that some of their agents were still trying to get people from the streets to undergo the “free scans”.
“I am not aware that some of our sales reps have withdrawn their presents on the street.
“We have nothing to hide at all,” he said.
However, when H-Metro visited one of their offices along George Silundika Avenue yesterday, three of the agents said they were on a Civvies Day.
“Nhasi hatina uniform nekuti tiripa Civvies Day,” said one of the agents standing by the entrance and looking for potential clients.
