A team of British, Indian and local doctors are set to perform free cleft lip and palate surgeries at Chitungwiza Central Hospital starting tomorrow.
Screening of the patients will be conducted at the hospital today following the arrival of the foreign doctors on Friday and yesterday.
Local medical practitioner and one of the organisers of the initiative, Dr Adore Danda said seven British and Indian doctors will lead the processes.
“The foreign doctors are now in the country as we prepare for the screening process and the surgeries,” he said.
“From India we are receiving two surgeons, two anaesthesiologists and one paediatrician. From the UK we have one surgeon plus one paediatrician.
“Screening will be conducted on Sunday (today) with surgeries beginning on Monday and ending on Friday this week.
“We have registered a total of 60 patients for the screening exercise.”
The surgeries are being funded by Love Without Reason International in partnership with Chitungwiza Central Hospital.
Since 2017, this is the third time the surgeries are being conducted at the medical institution.
