ICT, Postal and Courier Services Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere, has launched 10 community information centres as part of the grand strategy of leaving no one and no place behind.
Minister Muswere toured the 10 centres located at the main Post Office in the Harare CBD, Mt Pleasant, Emerald Hill, Glen View, Glen Norah, Belvedere, Mabelreign, Msasa, Mufakose and Highfield.
The centres will assist students, businesspeople and the community to access information using the internet free of charge.
Researchers can either use their gadgets or those in the community information centres.
Speaking in Glen View, the Minister said the global village requires people with access to information and technology.
“The digital economy is one of the 14 key priorities that is going to transform the macro and micro-economic landscape of this country.
“The use and access to ICT is very important as we journey towards attaining Vision 2030.
“In terms of governance, we have managed to develop a bill which seeks to ensure that there is security in utilisation of information technology,” said the Minister.
He said they were committed to ensuring that the population has a safe cyber space, with no place for cyber bullying and child pornography.
“As we journey towards Vision 2030, we have developed the Smart Zimbabwe master plan, which includes the use of tele-medicine.
“We are also working closely with the private sector to accelerate the development of ICT in the country.”
