The Zimbabwe Medical Association (ZiMA) in partnership with Chitungwiza Central Hospital, will today offer free medical services to thousands of patients following a successful screening process that ended yesterday.
The hospital’s chief executive officer, Dr Obadiah Moyo, said the doctors also scheduled minor surgeries for today and would provide medical advise to those that required major operations.
“All surgeries that are within the scope of the doctors, will be performed and those that need ample time for investigation and planning have been scheduled for Monday,” said Dr Moyo.
He said so far, there have not been any major challenges during the screening process, but appealed for more donations on drugs and sundries to make the programme more successful.
ZiMA has been conducting free medical services to different districts throughout the country as part of its social responsibility programme.
This would be the second time this year that the doctors’ association has offered free medical services to disadvantaged communities.
Chitungwiza is the first urban centre were such a programme has been conducted as the association has mostly extended such medical help to rural settlements who have limited medical supplies and are in constant shortage of medical personnel and at times unable to afford the medical bills.
