The Alliance Française will once again give Zimbabweans a spectacular treat tonight when another French band performs at the venue.
The visit by the band, Grèn Sémé, comes just a week after another French musician, Patrick Lupi, staged a marvellous performance at the Old Mutual Theatre at Alliance Française last week.
This time around, the Institute Français of South Africa and the Alliance Françaises of Zimbabwe worked in conjunction to bring the French band into Zimbabwe.
In a statement, Alliance Françaises of Zimbabwe said that it is trying to strengthen the cultural relationship between Zimbabwe and France.
“Alliance Françaises of Zimbabwe is pleased to welcome and present to the people of Zimbabwe a very talented and inspiring musical band from the Reunion Island, a French Island quite close to France,” read the statement.
“This outstanding band, Grèn Sémé, will be performing for the people of Zimbabwe in the garden of the Alliance Française of Harare.
“The Alliance Française offers an exciting cultural program, bringing to Zimbabwe the cultures of the French speaking world.
“Its involvement is also very strong in the promotion of local artists and it encourages a true and fruitful dialogue between artists and cultures.
“The band’s music is that cultural world music, the feel of island but loads of jazz about it.
“It is definitely something to feel good to and it feels like something out of a Quentin Tarantino movie.”
The Grèn Sémé’s noted on a social network that their music is deeply rooted in the tradition of “maloya”, which originates from Reunion Island and also explores new horizons and new sounds.
They added that in this musical “laboratory,” comes to life a mixture of singing and experimentation, between blues and joy, rebellion and tenderness, that the band call “evolutive maloya”. The band will perform some of their popular tracks which include the hit song “Papiyon”.
The show kicks off at 7.30pm.
