ZIMBABWE international striker Nyasha Mushekwi says he is keen to don the Warriors jersey again and help the national team qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
The former CAPS United forward, who is currently enjoying a new lease of life in Sweden, yesterday said the Warriors have a good chance of qualifying for the finals following a positive start in Malawi last week.
Mushekwi was last week called up for the Warriors squad to face Malawi, but failed to make the team after he picked an injury during a league match for his Swedish side Djurgadens.
He is now back home on a short holiday and watched the home-based Warriors in their first training session yesterday ahead of the CHAN qualifier against Comoros on Sunday at Rufaro.
“Yes (I still want to play a part in the Warriors). It’s just unfortunate that I got injured before the first AFCON qualifier against Malawi,” said Mushekwi.
“I got injured in my last game and couldn’t make it. But I feel better now and I asked (for a short leave) to see my family and stuff and then go back.
“I can only hope that I get called up again for the next Warriors match.”
Mushekwi said Zimbabwe have a good chance of winning Group L because the Warriors registered an important away victory.
However, the forward was quick to warn that the Warriors should work hard and never underrate any team.
Zimbabwe are on three points, the same as Swaziland, who shocked group favourites Guinea 2-1 in Morocco on Friday after the opening round of games.
“Football has changed. Every team, every country has improved in certain aspects of their game. Swaziland won away against Guinea; it’s not an easy thing to go there and win.
“If you see Swaziland winning (away to Guinea) it shows they are a good team; so, we must be wary of all the countries that we are playing against.
“But I am sure we have good chances of winning this group because we started well against Malawi away. We did not have the best of preparations, but we got the desired result.
“We could do better,” said Mushekwi.
The Zimbabwe international is currently the hottest property in the Swedish top-flight league where he leads the Golden Boot race.
“It’s life. When people have forgotten about you, God’s got a way always,” said Mushekwi.
“It is not easy, especially when one is moving from one country to another.”
Last year, Mushekwi played for Belgian side K.V. Oostende after he was loaned by his parent club Mamelodi Sundowns.
The South African club have now loaned him to Sweden where he has attracted a lot of interest from other clubs across Europe.
“It has been a learning curve and it has been good,” said Mushekwi.
He said he was unlikely to stay for a long period at Djurgadens because his club Sundowns may want to recall him or sell him to the highest bidder.
“I am not going to stay long because of my situation at Sundowns, but I am going to see how it’s going to end.
“I heard the stories of interest in me from other teams in Sweden, but there is nothing concrete at the moment,” he said.
The Warriors forward said he is not keen to move back to the South African league anytime soon.
“I would not want to go back to South Africa soon, but Sundowns have the upper hand with my contract and I will wait to see what happens,” he said.
