adminCARHAIX — A collective of farmers in France’s Brittany region are threatening to break 100 000 eggs in public daily to protest the low price of the food. Members of the collective, who have been making announcements through an anonymous spokesman, threw eggs at the tax office in Carhaix on Wednesday night and at a supermarket in Cotes d’Armor on Tuesday night, Radio France Internationale reported yesterday.
The group said they will break 100 000 eggs in public each day until the government takes steps to raise the price of eggs.
A Brittany union representing poultry farmers said French egg producers currently receive an average $1 per 2.2 pounds of eggs, compared to the $1.27 cost price for the same amount of eggs.
The group said it will smash the eggs until Sunday, when members will consider other plans.
“We’re ready to give these eggs to developing countries, but they cannot stay on French territory,” the anonymous spokesman said.- UPI
