Old Mutual Theatre Alliance Française will this Saturday host an acoustic concert featuring French guitarist Patrick Lupi. The concert, which is scheduled to start at 7:30pm, will feature the French musician being supported by Zimbabwean artistes Steve Chikoti and the Soul Bone band.
The trip by Lupi into Zimbabwe is a return after his first sojourn in 2009 when he engaged in various music projects whilst mastering the true Zimbabwean music culture. During his past visit, Lupi made a number of collaborations with Zimbabwean artistes who include Soul Bone, Eve Kawadza and Steve Chikoti.
The French song writer, singer and guitarist’s music is a fusion of pop, folk, afro-pop and jazz. In conversation with The Herald Entertainment Lupi revealed how he fell in love with Africa.
“My love for travelling led me into Africa which is a continent that I really love so much.
“Naturally, it has enabled me to meet and collaborate with Zimbabwean and African musicians.
I have played on stage with the likes of Bongo Love, Blackberry and Soul Bone who in turn had the opportunity to discover the French genres in music, thus creating a real platform for inter-cultural exchange” he said.
Lupi has featured regularly at the Alliance Française of Harare as well as many other places in Zimbabwe like the Miombo Magic Festival in May 2014. In June 2012, he released an album entitled Towns & Travelling — Villes et Autres Odyssées which is a culmination of three years of collaborative work with some talented local musicians who include Filbert Marova, John Mambira, Eve Kawadza.
He released a new singles album in March 2014 entitled “Onomatopea Song” with acclaimed sound engineer Vusa Moyo. Patrick Lupi is registered at the French society of writers (SACEM).
The acoustic concert is expected to be attended by a huge crowd and gate entrance has been pegged at $5 per head.
