Friend recounts final hours with Babongile Sikhonjwa

Haslam Maenzanise, a close friend who says he was with Babongile Sikhonjwa at his home during the time of his untimely death, has spoken out about the tragic events.
“He was at my place for the weekend, and we were playing cards in the early hours before 1am. I left him at around 3am and checked up on him in the morning, but he didn’t respond, prompting me to rush him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. . . He was my top shutter,” said Maenzanise.

He also addressed rumours circulating on social media, dismissing claims that Sikhonjwa collapsed and died suddenly.

The celebrated radio presenter and MC passed away at the age of 49 on Sunday morning.

In an official statement, the family confirmed the loss of the beloved entertainer: “It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Sikhonjwa family announces the passing of their beloved son, Babongile Sikhonjwa, this morning. A cherished and very loving father, brother, and son, Babongile was a pillar of strength, love, and wisdom whose presence touched the lives of all who knew him,” read the statement.

The family has requested privacy during this difficult period.

“During this time of immense grief and adjustment, the family respectfully requests privacy as they mourn their loss and make the necessary arrangements. They deeply appreciate the thoughts and prayers from friends, extended family, and the community.
“All official communications, including information regarding memorial services, will be coordinated through the official family spokesperson.
