Friend’s wife raped

Court Correspondent
A Harare man yesterday appeared in court on allegations of raping his friend’s wife.

Keith Jonasi Maone (38) of Kuwadzana 3 was not asked to plead to rape charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi and was remanded in custody since only the High Court can grant bail for such charges.

The court heard that in June this year, Maone told his friend’s wife that her husband was cheating on her with several girlfriends. On June 20, Maone phoned her and on hearing she was coming into central Harare, they agreed to meet at a service station along Samora Machel Avenue.

The court heard that upon meeting, Maone told the woman to enter into his car and sat at the back and they proceeded to Kuwadzana through Warren Park, dropping off passengers. They allegedly parked the car at an open space in Crowborough and Maone jumped to the back seat and started telling her that her husband was a womaniser and that he was willing to take care of her.

She refused to accept his advances, but Maone proceeded to rape her and gave her US$10 to buy her silence.

A report was then made, leading to Maone’s arrest.
