WHEN one suffers a setback they tend to give up and throw it all away. For a Bulawayo man, giving up was not an option.
Losing his mother at a young age, Prosper Mudimba did not give up on life despite the challenges he faced. Born in Hwange to a single parent who unfortunately passed away in 2007, the journey into bodybuilding began later after he was taken in by his father and stepmother.
With the tough upbringing and losing a parent, the then young Mudimba got himself a job at one of the local gyms, Dynamics Health Studio as a cleaner and he stayed there for some time. Spending most of his time surrounded by bodybuilders inspired him to take up the profession.
“I got myself a job as a cleaner at Dynamics Health Studio and held that position for eight years. Spending a lot of time in that environment inspired me to take up bodybuilding,” Mudimba told Saturday Chronicle.
His journey into the world of bodybuilding was not solo ride. He was under the care of Ray Fisher who also taught him how to be a bouncer.
“In particular, a gentleman by the name Ray Fisher did not only introduce me to bodybuilding, he also introduced and guided me to be a bouncer around pubs and clubs around the city,” he said.
A bouncer with brains.
Despite having a comfortable job as a bodybuilder/bouncer it was not enough for Mudimba who has decided to take up his profession to the next stage by pursuing the academic side of the vocation.
“While I was comfortable with my day-to-day life, I then met a lady friend, Nothabo Gumpo unexpectedly in one of my workplaces and in conversation she advised me on taking up a course in personal training so I can have the required skills to further my career,” said Mudimba.
He added: “With no doubt after researching I registered myself into the course which I’m enjoying and looking forward to excel in.”
Mudimba is studying a course in personal training at Lupane State University and is set to complete it next year
Not only is he into studying in order to expand his wings, Mudimba is also into the business of private security which includes VIP protection. Having successfully explored other avenues linked with bodybuilding, Mudimba encouraged his other mates to go out and explore their dreams and not be confined in one place.
“My view of the future is bright, sometimes it takes someone to see potential in you just like me, I was blessed with great people around me so I would like to encourage other people in my former position to soul search and research on opportunities available to them and live their dreams,” said Mudimba. — @brandon_malvin
