From pulpit to prison: Chegutu prophet arrested during service for kissing congregant

Some of his congregants might have believed that popular Chegutu prophet Timothy Michael was delivering his sermon using real-life visual aids as new-day men of the cloth are well known for, by staging his arrest, alas he was being arrested for real.

The popular Chegutu prophet was arrested on Saturday during a church service for kissing a female member of his congregation. Timothy Michael is likely to be charged with sexual abuse.

Prophet Timothy Michael of New Generation Church was arrested while conducting a church service leaving his congregation stunned.

When contacted by H-Metro to confirm if the Chegutu prophet had indeed been arrested, Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson Inspector Ian Kohwera could not provide any information saying he had yet to receive the report.

However, one of the senior church members, Venjai Jowo, confirmed the arrest to the publication.

“Yes, he has been arrested,” said Vongai who refused to answer any further questions.

Sources who spoke to H-Metro on condition of anonymity said that Prophet Michael allegedly demanded a kiss from the female congregant. The sources commended the female congregant for standing up for her rights by reporting the prophet to the police.

The sources further hinted that this was not an isolated incident, suggesting the prophet had a history of abusing his female congregants.

“This is the only female member who stood up to defend her rights. When he demanded a kiss, that is when she shouted at him,” the source explained. (iharare/H Metro)
