SOMETIMES in life you find yourself at crossroads where one has to choose what they are good at. Meet 22-year-old Gamelihle Ncube from Nkulumane, Bulawayo, one of the talented poets who was once in a dilemma on which career to pursue between rap and poetry.

Ncube discovered his talent when he was in primary school when he wrote a consolation letter to his cousin who had lost his father.

“My career began in a funny way because when I was in Grade 7 my cousin lost his father so I had to write him a consolation letter and the letter was so good and since that day I never looked back,” said Gamelihle.

Ncube said at first he was confused whether he is a rapper or a poet until he was in Form 2.

“At first I thought I was a rapper so from Grade 7 until Form 2 I was doing rap music until I discovered that I was good in poetry and still in high school I used to write lyrics for my peers who wanted to impress girls,” he said.

His poems are based on everyday things that people come across in their day to day lives.

“Literature is the mirror of society, my poems mostly are based on things that we come across every day or find ourselves experiencing like love, death, war, success, the list is endless,” said Ncube.

He further said his poems are inspired by God and his target audience is everyone as his poems are so simple that even a person who is not a literature student can get the meaning and relate.

Besides being a poet he is a Law student at Midlands State University.
