From ‘Samba Night’ to ‘Zimba Night’

Following the success of the “Samba Night” that was held at Airport Lounge featuring Brazilian dancers during the recent Harare International Carnival, event organizes Divine Assignments have engaged local dancers and models for a similar two-day show.
The show, which is dubbed “Zimba Night”, would approximate the “Samba Night” and takes place at Airport Lounge on Friday and Saturday. A spokesperson of Divine Assignments said their patrons had enjoyed the “Samba Night” and requested for a similar event.

“We want to please our fans but it would be costly to bring dancers from Brazil for the show and we decided to engage our own dancers and models to go through similar paces,” said the spokesperson.

“There are some local choreographers that are good at various dances that would work with the models and dancers for the show. People will see our local dancers moving in Samba paces and we know it would be an exciting night.

“The dancers would be clad in Samba outfits but we will also do our own dances to ensure that the act does not become completely foreign. We call it a ‘Zimba Night’ because we will also showcase local dances and the dancers are Zimbabweans.

“This event is just a response to public demand but we are hoping to make ‘Zimba Night’ an event that is mainly made of local dances. However, for this weekend’s show, people are likely to witness a repeat of the ‘Samba Night’.”

A local modeling agency would provide models for the dance night while selected dancers would lead the show.
