IN the captivating world of South African showbiz, the radiant actress and media personality, Phindile Gwala-Ngandu, famously known as Fikile on the acclaimed soapie Imbewu, embodies a fierce and courageous character that resonates deeply with the aspiring biotechnology student, Conscience Ndlovu, from the prestigious National University of Science and Technology (Nust) in Zimbabwe.
Their paths may seem divergent, but they share an extraordinary passion for fitness, a fervour that ignited a social media frenzy when Ndlovu posted a picture showcasing her hard-earned physique. Gwala-Ngandu, clearly captivated by the image, couldn’t resist commenting, “Every woman’s dream body,” leaving no doubt about the dedication and effort Ndlovu has poured into achieving what many call a “summer body.”
This seemingly innocuous comment had an unexpected impact on Ndlovu, serving as a catalyst that reignited her long-dormant aspiration of becoming the face of diverse corporations. Saturday Leisure had the pleasure of sitting down with Ndlovu, who revealed how Gwala-Ngandu’s recognition had transformed her perspective on life.
“Being acknowledged by Phindile Gwala-Ngandu has been nothing short of life-changing. It has reignited my drive to pursue my dream of being an ambassador for various corporations. To achieve this, I understand that I must invest in both my physical and mental well-being.
The excitement of her comment fuels my desire to follow in her footsteps — a woman of power and influence,” Ndlovu explained with an infectious enthusiasm.
Ndlovu, impassioned by her desire to enact societal change, utilises her art to shed light on critical issues like gender-based violence (GBV). She fervently believes that she possesses more than just beauty and intelligence; her ambition knows no bounds. Alongside her aspirations of becoming an ambassador, she dreams of opening her own gym to inspire women to embrace their inner strength and beauty, dismantling the notion that anyone is “ugly” and proving that hard work yields success. Furthermore, she envisions running her own fashion boutique, offering stylish attire to her clientele.
Her transformative gym journey began under the tutelage of her personal trainer, Angus Goliath, a year ago. Ndlovu wholeheartedly encourages women to prioritise their well-being and physical fitness by embracing the gym. Gone are the days when gyms were considered a male-dominated domain reserved for sports enthusiasts. According to Ndlovu, regular exercise not only alleviates stress but also boosts confidence, enhances memory, and fosters better sleep — fundamental aspects of a fulfilling life.
In her pursuit for excellence, Ndlovu draws inspiration from esteemed figures such as Under Armour Women, Phindile Gwala-Ngandu, Pokello, and Nicci Robinson. This multi-faceted individual aspires to create an array of imaginative art that tackles pressing societal concerns. To bring her vision to life, Ndlovu acknowledges that support from businesses and well-wishers will be instrumental in propelling her to become a prominent member of society through her art.
“I am actively seeking non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that will recognise my work, particularly for these meaningful shoots. My mission is to advocate for social change and serve as the ambassador of any cause that requires rectification. By working together as a community, we can move forward and create a brighter future,” Ndlovu asserted. — @MbuleloMpofu
