MTHOKOZI Dube, the sharp-tongued football scribe who once sharpened his pen at Sunday News, has just written his name in bold at the South African Football Journalists’ Association (SAFJA) awards.
The FARPost Editor-in-Chief walked away with not one but two glittering gongs — Written Journalist of the Year and the big daddy, Overall Journalist of the Year.
Dube, never one to hog the limelight, gave all credit to his crew and home support.
“Humbled to be named the SAFJA Journalist of the Year and Written Journalist of the Year. Truly humbling. These accolades belong to the amazing team at FARPost and my incredibly supportive wife,” he said.
His victory sent ripples of pride across newsrooms and old stomping grounds. Former Sunday News sports boss Phathisani Moyo saluted his consistency.
“Mtho has always let his work do the talking. This recognition is truly deserved,” Moyo said.
Dubai-based journalist and long-time buddy Wenyasha Chingono went straight for the throwback feels.
“I remember over a decade ago, you packed your bags and got on a bus to SA after conquering Botswana. From breaking stories in your Tlokweng digs to running FARPost, your rise is pure inspiration. You’re not just a sharp news breaker, you weave words into tapestries,” Chingono said.
The awards, powered by SAFJA and Hollywoodbets — who just extended their partnership until 2026 — keep the spotlight firmly on excellence both on the pitch and behind the pen.
Dube is proof that once a newsroom hustler, always a newsroom hustler — only now he’s playing on a continental stage.
