Fuel dealers get ultimatum on E10

Business Reporter
ZIMBABWE Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) has ordered all fuel retail sites to re-label and comply with the regulatory authority’s directive of selling E10. In a statement, Zera said they have given all fuel retail sites seven days up to today to re-label their petrol pumps. “Zera has given all retail sites seven days to label their entire petrol pumps ‘Blend’ to avoid misrepresentation to consumers.”
The public can report to Zera any retail sites which continue labelling ‘unleaded petrol, petrol and E5’ on their petrol pumps as this is in contravention of the Zera directive.”

The regulatory authority said members of the public should be aware that all petrol sold at retail sites should be E10.
“The public is advised to be aware that all petrol sold at retail sites in Zimbabwe should be E10 (10 percent ethanol and 90 percent unleaded petrol).”

This comes after the commencement of E10 blending became mandatory on 24 October 2013.
A number of retail sites who spoke to Chronicle said they have started selling E10 and they are aware of the requirement to re-label their petrol pumps.

One manager who spoke on condition of anonymity said they have started working on ways to comply with this directive.
“We are already selling E10 as per Zera’s directive and we are in the process of  labelling our petrol pumps, we are still waiting for     the stickers so that we can put them on,” he said.

He said they were taking up the directive although they are still yet to clear their other stock of petrol.
“We are trying all we can to make sure we do the right thing and also to help the consumers understand that we are now selling E10,” he said.
