Fuel incentive for blood donors

AS blood shortages continue to affect the country’s blood bank, the National Blood Services of Zimbabwe (NBSZ) is set to introduce an incentive of a five-litre fuel coupon to all possible blood donors.

The token of appreciation will be launched on 6 January. NBSZ communications officer, Mr Kudakwashe Chidziya said this initiative is meant to ensure that there are adequate blood stocks in Zimbabwe and hence their partnership with Redan.

“This is a strategic partnership under corporate engagement strategy which is meant to partner with corporates for financial and non- financial assistance as NBSZ is a non-profit organisation. Redan and its Corporate Social Responsibility mandates also realised the need to save lives by contributing in blood collection partnerships meant to boost national blood stocks,” said Mr Chidziya.

This initiative comes after the revelations that the nation has been hit by a critical shortage of blood group type O especially Harare and Bulawayo branches which are now left with only a few day’s supply.

Mr Chidziya said they are anticipating a huge turnout as they are hoping to boost their stocks.

“We are anticipating a huge turnout and we are hopeful that we can boost our stocks with at least 30 percent of our adequate stocks,” he said.

Initially the participating sites will be Redan Greencroft in Harare, Redan Flyover in Mutare and Bulawayo’s Redan Bellevue.
