Fuel prices drop, LPG rises in Zimbabwe amid US-Iran conflict

Business Reporter

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced a mixed price adjustment for petroleum products in July 2026, with fuel prices decreasing while Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has become more expensive, even as escalating US-Iran military tensions drive global oil prices higher.

The new fuel prices, effective 8 July 2026, set Diesel 50 at US$1, 93 per litre in foreign currency. In local currency, diesel is now pegged at ZiG50, 37 per litre while the blend costs ZiG51, 83. This represents a reduction from June, when diesel cost US$1, 98.

LPG prices, however, have increased for July, with the cost per kilogramme now set at US$1, 96 and ZiG52, 60 in June.

The price movements come as Brent crude traded around US$78 per barrel on Thursday, up approximately 8 percent for the week, after the US military confirmed it had carried out a second consecutive day of strikes against Iran. President Donald Trump declared the temporary ceasefire “over” and warned of further military action, including a possible blockade and strikes on Iran’s key export terminal on Kharg Island. Tehran has vowed large-scale retaliation against US military bases across the region.

In its advisory for the new fuel prices, ZERA stated that “Government interventions continue to cushion consumers from the impact of global geopolitical developments”. The authority reminded operators that the blending ratio remains at E20 and that they may sell below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages, with prices to be displayed prominently as per regulations.
