A BURNSIDE who allegedly bashed his neighbour with an iron bar, vanished for months, pulled a movie stunt at court and went on the run again, has been arrested in the bushy stretches of Nyamandlovu.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the arrest of Lameck Mguni (34) of Starling Drive, who is accused of turning a quiet sports bar into a WWE ring on 17 September 2024. Lameck allegedly walloped a 46-year-old neighbour on the head “several times with an iron bar” because he believed the poor man was “spying on him.”

The victim suffered “serious deep cuts on the head” and a report was made. But Mguni evaporated like a magician after the assault, leaving residents whispering and the complainant nursing wounds and confusion.

Fast forward to New Year’s Day 2025. Police finally caught up with him, escorted him to court, and that is when the man turned into an action hero without a contract. Before he could appear before the magistrate, he allegedly took off and “jumped from the first floor and escaped.”

Witnesses say the jump was dramatic but not glamorous.

For almost a year he was a ghost, until police received fresh intel on 4 December 2025. Officers followed the trail to Nyamandlovu, dug around Springs Village, and boom, the fugitive was cornered. Insp Msebele said: “They proceeded to the mentioned place and made some enquiries, which led to the arrest of the accused person.”

She had a word for the public, thanking them for helping reel in the runaway suspect. “We appreciate members of the public for supplying information that led to the arrest of the accused person,” said Insp Msebele.

She also dropped a firm warning to hot-headed citizens. “We urge members of the public to solve their differences amicably rather than resorting to violence.”

As for Lameck, the iron bar saga, the court jump and the Nyamandlovu hideout have officially caught up with him. The next time he faces the magistrate, chances are he won’t get the opportunity to fly again.
