It was a weekend where every beat found its audience and every stage told a different story, as Harare’s entertainment scene roared into life with packed venues, surprise performances and cross-border brilliance.

Gospel music lit the first spark, with rising star Cleo Arie delivering a statement-making purpose album launch that drew a capacity crowd.

Young, stylish and fully engaged, the audience reflected the very essence of her music fresh, expressive and deeply rooted in faith. Cleo Arie’s performance blurred the lines between gospel and hip-hop, creating a vibrant fusion that felt both daring and deliberate.

She commanded the stage with confidence, backed by slick choreography and polished production. It was the kind of performance that signals transition from promising newcomer to serious contender.

Having recently shared the spotlight at the Minister Michael Mahendere July Music Festival, she now looks ready to headline her own path, and purpose may well be the vehicle that drives her into the next phase of her career.

Adding weight to the night were strong supporting acts from Sharon Cherayi and Joyful Praise Choir, both of whom brought polish and power. Their performances maintained the youthful momentum while reinforcing the depth and diversity within the gospel genre.

Across town, gospel lovers were equally spoilt for choice as The Unveiled live recording turned East End Hall at the Showgrounds into a hub of worship and musical excellence. The venue was filled to the brim, a clear sign of the growing appetite for live gospel experiences that go beyond the ordinary.

What made The Unveiled stand out was not just the atmosphere, but the element of surprise. The audience was treated to a parade of unannounced performances that elevated the night into something truly memorable.

Among those who graced the stage were Loveness Mukutirwa, Ellard, Sharon Cherayi, Snowy, Vocal Base, Nyasha Mutonhori and Wesley Nyamukuta. Each act brought a unique sound and spiritual intensity, creating a seamless flow between worship and performance.

The crowd responded in kind singing, swaying and fully immersed in the experience. It was more than a recording; it was a celebration of gospel’s collective strength and evolving identity.

While gospel fed the soul, the streets belonged to the beat. The Doek and Slay event at Glamis Arena delivered one of the weekend’s biggest spectacles, blending fashion, music and star power into one explosive showcase.

Headlined by dancehall king Winky D, the event drew a massive turnout, with fans stepping out in bold, glamorous outfits that lived up to the event’s name.

Winky D brought his trademark energy, running through a catalogue of hits that had the crowd in full voice. His performance was both commanding and calculated a reminder of why he remains one of the most influential figures in Zimbabwe’s urban music scene.

He was joined by Travellers Band, Oriyano and Killer T, who each delivered spirited sets that kept the tempo high and the crowd engaged.

Together, they turned Glamis Arena into a pulsating hub of sound and style, underlining the enduring appeal of dancehall and urban grooves.

Beyond Zimbabwe’s borders, the weekend’s momentum carried into South Africa, where sungura legend Alick Macheso staged a commanding performance in Durban.

Drawing a strong crowd of fans from across the diaspora, Macheso once again proved that his music travels effortlessly beyond home soil.

His Durban show was more than just a performance it was a cultural export, a reminder of sungura’s staying power and its ability to connect generations and geographies. Backed by his seasoned band, Macheso delivered a set rich in nostalgia and mastery, reaffirming his status as one of Zimbabwe’s most enduring musical figures.
