Fulton launches debut album

the who-is-who in local arts industry including prominent gospel music couple, Pastor Charles and Mrs Charamba, went on smoothly despite the fact that South African gospel guru Sipho Makhabane — who was expected to grace the event as a guest artiste — failed to turn up citing other commitments in his home country.
“Makhabane, who was supposed to attend the launch, had other commitments in South Africa together with Buhle. He had rehearsals and he was also supposed to have an interview on radio and he said although he was keen to grace the event, there was no way that he could catch the flight to Zimbabwe and return to South Africa within that short space of time,” said Fulton.
Fulton also took the opportunity to speak about his experiences in the Diaspora, saying it was not all rosy although people viewed life out there through rose-tinted spectacles.
“Kana uri kusina amai hauzive wekuchemera (you don’t have anyone to turn to when you are in a foreign land). Although people always talk about you having loads of pounds, life is not as smooth-sailing as people believe. Some people never know the kind of challenges we were going through in the United Kingdom and it is this that inspired this album,” Fulton said.
He added: “I love my country and I am also passionate about my continent of Africa and through my music I am always asking people if they have ever prayed for Africa.”
Fulton’s passion for his motherland was revealed through his songs which played during the launch and such as “Africa”.
“I wrote this song on 10 August 2002 and it was inspired by Heroes Day,” he said as he went on to perform the song together with his group.
Fulton also gave the audience a taste of some of the songs carried on his album which was also on sale during the launch.
Pastor Charamba urged Fulton to be unique and keep on persevering in his endeavour.
“”Honour and respect that which you think is unique within you,” said Pastor Charamba.
In a speech read on his behalf by an official from his office, Minister of Media, Information and Publicity Cde Webster Shamu applauded Fulton for launching the album in Zimbabwe, saying this revealed that he was a patriot at heart.
