Food Express’ donation on Monday made it possible for her to pay $1 409,54 that was needed for Nozipho to go for further tests at Mater Dei Hospital yesterday. However, the results were not immediately available.
Nozipho’s fund had $1 091 last week and needed $318,54.
The cost of the tests include doctor’s fees, anaesthetist’s fees and her stay at Mater Dei.
Food Express public relations officer Ms Ruvimbo Kadenhe said Nozipho’s plight prompted the company to donate the money.
“We felt pity for her seeing such a young child suffering when she is supposed to be playing with others. When we read the story in the paper we decided to do something for her,” she said.
Ms Kadenhe said every child deserved to have a clean bill of health when growing up and parents should ensure that children got proper medical assistance.
She thanked the corporate world and individuals who had previously donated and challenged them to donate more, as Nozipho would need more money for her treatment.
“As Food Express we shall support Nozipho where we can. Since it is an ongoing process we ask the business people in the city to continue supporting Nozipho until her health gets back to what it was,” said Ms Kadenhe.
She paid tribute to Mothers of Bulawayo for spearheading the campaign and raising awareness about Nozipho’s plight.
She said it was rare for people to take up a responsibility to help someone they are not related to.
“I would like to thank the Mothers of Bulawayo for a job well done. I would like to urge all mothers in the country to follow in their footsteps and do the same for the less privileged children in their communities,” Ms Kadenhe said.
Nozipho’s mother, Ms Silibaziso Zondo, thanked Food Express for coming at the right time so that her daughter could get medical attention.
“I would like to thank all the people who have been involved and all those who contributed money towards her medical bill. Words cannot express the gratitude I feel. They should continue supporting us,” she said.
Mothers of Bulawayo representative Mrs Ethel Nyoni said they would continue approaching people for more donations because Nozipho would need more medical attention.
She encouraged those who had contributed to continue giving more to the child.
“The money we have now will enable her to undergo tests to determine whether she needs to be operated on,” said Mrs Nyoni.
“This is just an assessment and she might need to go for surgery so that her condition is corrected, so more donations are needed.”
