TYSON FURY has branded Anthony Joshua a “bottlejob” and “chinless wonder” as he cast fresh doubt over the biggest fight in British boxing history.
The Gypsy King faces Mariusz Wach in Pattaya on Friday before Joshua returns against Kristian Prenga in Jeddah 24 hours later, with victories expected to seal their long-awaited showdown in November.
A deal is in place for the Battle of Britain, but Fury admits he will not believe it until he is standing opposite AJ inside the ropes.
He told IFL TV:
“Until that fight happens, walk into the ring… I’m not convinced it does.”
The former heavyweight champion then questioned whether Joshua could cope with the verbal warfare that would come with promoting the biggest domestic fight the sport has ever seen.
He said: “100 per cent (on whether the fight will actually happen). I can never see that stiff sitting on the table with me. Ever.
“What the f*** is he going to say? I can never actually see him at a press conference with me. It will just be like a bombardment. I can never see him taking that. He would not even get in the ring.”
Fury also reflected on their awkward encounter when Saudi boxing boss Turki Alalshikh brought them together to build hype for their long-awaited showdown after Fury’s bout with Arslanbek Makhmudov.
The 37-year-old believes Joshua’s, 36, reaction that day showed he has no appetite for a genuine face-to-face.
He said: “I was thinking that the other day. He s*** himself and sat on the stool outside and did not even want to get up and build the fight, like make the fight happen.
“When Turki Alalshikh said to us both ‘come on boys, let’s do it. Get in the ring and make it happen.’ He did not want to do it.”
Fury insists that if Joshua could not handle that moment, he has little chance of surviving the intense build-up before they eventually share a ring.
He added: “So how is he going to come face-to-face at a press conference. I think he is a bottlejob. A flapper. A chinless wonder as well.”
If Fury gets past Wach in Thailand and Joshua overcomes Prenga in Saudi Arabia, the pair are expected to finally meet in November in what is set to be the richest and biggest all-British fight the sport has ever seen – Sun.
