AN ad-hoc steering committee has embarked on an ambitious plan to spread Futsal and Beach Football in all districts across the country.

Maxwell Mapfumo chairs the committee deputized by former soccer star of the year, Alois Bunjira.

Mathazia Ngomalala, who attended the meeting for introducing the sports at Harare Sports Club recently, said:

“Futsal and Beach Football are Zifa affiliates. The committee spearheading their revival is seized with documents and logistics to normalise registration of clubs and running leagues in the country.

“Facilities are also being identified. The two sports are earmarked to run ten provincial leagues and an apex national championship each.

“We’ve joined hands with colleagues who have a keen interest in the sports. We’re already involved in scouting for talent to develop Futsal and Beach Football in our country. I’m spearheading that project in Kadoma.

These are fairly new sports in the neighbourhoods,” said Ngomalala in a telephone interview from Mozambique where he’s studying towards a Diploma in Sports Management.

The first leagues of the program are earmarked to start early next year, according to resolutions from the workshop.

As a sports coordinator at Kadoma City Council, Ngomalala said he has managed to establish running leagues for handball, boxing and karate.

He has indicated that he wants to introduce more running leagues in other sport codes to benefit the youth

His wish is to empower the younger generation with life changing skills.

“I yearn to make the younger generation enjoy the fruits of their talent.

“We need to make them stay away from vice, especially prostitution, alcoholism, drugs and substance abuse. These are pulling our dear nation down.” said Ngomalala.
