Sibanda, a former member of Iyasa, could have left seasoned stand up comedians green with envy as he left the audience in stitches with his 30 minute comic theatre production dubbed Zitho Zomzimba.
The 28-year-old dancer and singer famed for his role in the video to hit track Banolila proved he is a creative genius as he swiftly moved from the stage to comedy.
The audience could have left the cultural centre with aching ribs as Sibanda cracked jokes tackling current issues of gays, colour blocking and the infamous adult entertainer Bev. The show, which was opened by Iyasa dance group and the Hurricanes, was brought to a halt after a powercut.
In an interview after the show, Sibanda, who is studying a degree in dance and theatre in Austria, said he was happy to be performing at home and would be back in the country to shoot a DVD.
“It’s a great thing performing at home and Mhlanga (Cont) has offered me material to shoot a DVD in the country and I would be back soon to shoot it,” said the rather shy artiste.
He said he was already making a name for himself in Austria as he had shared the stage with some of the comedians in that country. He has already worked on a number of productions that include Captain Future and a children’s theatre production Sand.
Speaking after the show, Iyasa director Nkululeko Dube said it was sad that most people were of the assumption that Sibanda left the group because of monetary issues.
“Many people think that Sibanda moved because of a whole lot of issues but we are happy for him and we urge aristes to grow and move. Artistes must grow and move and pave way for juniors, what Future did was a good thing, it’s an example to all other artistes,” said Dube.
