FUZ to host soccer tourney

THE Footballers Union of Zimbabwe will next week host a soccer tournament for players who are out of contracts with their former clubs.
The idea of the event is to create a platform to discuss contractual issues between players and FUZ.Several players both in the Premiership and lower leagues have had their contracts expire at the end of last year.

FUZ who represent players’ welfare will hold the event from Wednesday to Saturday next week.

The union secretary-general Paul Gundani said the idea is to bring together players who do not have contracts and create a good platform to discuss contractual issues.

“We will hold a tournament that seeks to assist players as they prepare to take on new contracts,” said Gundani.

“The tournament will bring together all the players from Premier League and lower leagues as there are many contractual cases, which are emanating causing problems to players’ careers.

“We will have top local coaches taking charge of the players during the tournament and it will consist of all players both from the Premier League and Division One,” Gundani said.

Several players who had some misunderstandings with their clubs have resorted to seeking guidance from FUZ.

Gundani also emphasised that those who still have contracts should focus on their careers until the time comes.

“We appeal to players who still have contracts to honour them diligently so that we deal with pure cases and avoid embarrassment. Registration for the tournament will be closed on Tuesday.

“There will be a part two of the tournament in Bulawayo during the season break in June, which will allow those with running contracts to attend,” said Gundani.
