CELEBRATED musician, Freeman and his Gallis social soccer outfit, will be back in Mutare for a potentially explosive encounter against an equally star‑studded Socco Golden Stars FC at Mutare Showgrounds tomorrow (Saturday).
The match kicks-off at 3pm.
Social soccer matches involving Socco Golden Stars, both at home and away, are now an “in‑thing” among football lovers in particular and pleasure‑seekers in general, judging by the huge crowds in attendance each time they take to the field of play.
Bankrolled by youthful mining entrepreneur, Ruramai Nyakonga, who is also the current Pacific Storm Eastern Region Division One outfit, Buffaloes FC chairman and himself a player in the social soccer team, Socco Golden Stars is rekindling the good old memories of clubs such as Choc City that used to provide football entertainment outside the usual competitive leagues.
Socco Golden Stars administrator, Tendai ‘Gede’ Matiringe, confirmed that the match will be played at Mutare Showgrounds.
“We will have the Socco Golden Stars against Gallis FC encounter at Mutare Showgrounds on Saturday (tomorrow). The match is starting at 3pm and both teams are expected to field their full‑strength squads because bragging rights are at stake. We urge the Mutare soccer‑loving community and beyond to throng the match venue for an entertaining match. Remember, this is also an opportunity to network for business purposes and at the same time this is an initiative meant to keep youths and even adults off drug and substance abuse,” said Matiringe.
Such is the hype surrounding Saturday’s match that the video clip done by Freeman is already circulating widely on social media platforms around Mutare and beyond.
Socco Golden Stars’ match against Marondera Legends last Saturday, as well as tomorrow’s tie against Gallis FC, are both meant to be part of their pre‑season preparations as they aim to retain the Mutare Social Football Association (MUSFA) championship for the third time on the bounce.
