FORMER Mr Bulawayo Simon Gama will represent the province in the Mr Zimbabwe Strongest Man event to be held at Harare Sports Club today. More than 20 body builders drawn from across the country are expected to take part in the ironmen contest.

It will be Gama’s first time to take part in the Strongest Man contest and he said he was confident of doing well.

“It’s my first time to contest in such a competition because my area of speciality is body building. Mr Strongest Man competition involves fitness and endurance, but I’m confident I’ll bring the prize to the City of Kings because I have been training hard for this competition,” said Gama.

Event organiser Henry Bindu said the Mr Strongest Man competition started as a Harare only event but had now become a national contest.

“At first the event was only held in Harare as funds were not permitting, but it is now open to participants from all over the country. I’m expecting participants from Bulawayo, Gweru, Kwekwe, Mutare and other towns,” said Bindu.

Participants will be involved in car pulling, tyre flip and squats, among other events.

Although Bindu could not divulge what the winners would get, he said cash prizes would be handed out.

“I can’t state the amount that will be given to the winners, but I can assure them that they will get good prizes. This is an event where test of strength, fitness and endurance comes into play,” he said.
