A GAMBLING session in Insiza turned nasty after a man allegedly assaulted his friend in a heated dispute over money lost in the game.
Shangani Gumbo of Mawayelesini appeared before Tredgold Magistrate Abednigo Ndebele, to answer to a charge of assault and was remanded in custody to 29 August for sentencing.
Prosecutor Joseph Rugara, told the court that the fight erupted on 21 September 2024 around 6PM at Mawayelesini ground where Gumbo and his friend Herbert Netha, were gambling.
When Netha lost a round to Gumbo, tempers flared and the two engaged in a public brawl. Gumbo allegedly overpowered his friend, leaving him with a swollen eye and severe pain in his head and face.
The injured Netha reported the matter to ZRP Insuza. He was referred to St Luke’s Hospital for medical attention.
